Donegal Summer has arrived!!!

As inhabitants of this glorious land of rolling green hills, mountains, fresh air and landscape we are a born nation hardened to our volatile weather. As kids, summer holidays always guaranteed us lovely lazy days spent with lie ons, freedom to play as we wished but never the climate akin to many other nations who enjoyed guaranteed July/August sunshine, beach days and picnics!!!

However, proper summer has arrived here in Donegal….with temperatures soaring, 13 tog duvets flung to the wind aswell as the windows of every house in the nation flung open to let in the breeze, we Irish are finally basking in that glorious summer dream that has become a reality!!!

I took a drive through Inishowen today. From Buncrana onwards to Malin Head there was a buzz in the air and on the roads….camper fans on tour, N.I reg plates in abundance, motorists licking ice cream cones before they dripped on their laps, kids giggling and running along the shore greens, wedding fever and a happiness that is indescribable – something you need to experience to understand.

Donegal…This is a place where you can be at one with the world….it is our oyster…although modern in many ways we are still a step back in time…we can chose to spend our time as we please and be at one with nature. So blessed with panoramic views, seascapes, fresh air and more than anything…letting the kids run freely unsupervised – be back by 9pm!!! The welcome of our people…friendly, unobstrusive, kind, generous, sincere and the craic is always mighty!

I finished my evening by taking the kids to Buncrana Pier for some jumps and swims…they were excited, nervous, giggled and simply hadn’t another care in the world….this is an amazing county and having travelled many corners of the globe myself and had so many experiences there’s still only one place that I choose to live out my days.
